Big Apple

Quite a respite, then, hmm? The whole weekend without an update...

...not even a postcard.

Friday night was ladies' night - Ellen, Katie, Lauren, Sara, and, near the final stroke of twelve, Jen at Rusty Knot, Turks and Frogs, Art Bar and Auto Slims. Adventure ensued. Saturday was sister time way, way up in northern New York City. Marathon viewings of The Hills, The City and the ever-amazing MadMen on her beautiful new tv gave us the best reason ever to spend all evening in our jammies. Sunday was a four-mile stroll down through the park and onto Columbus Avenue for flea market fun, then, zoom, into Brooklyn for bocce victory and frantic Atlantic Antic streetfair. The day unravelled, and by 10pm, all in our tiny apartment were asleep.

This morning was back to the ol' heave-ho. The weekend, though it perhaps reads like a Bacchanalian romp, gave me a much needed release, a renewed sense of purpose, and some very pragmatic ideas for moving ahead with the NPM and the special online project. Thank goodness. I can do this.

One striking moment or two this weekend: I seriously researched the idea of becoming a surrogate parent. Specifically for a gay couple, specifically through a much-trusted agency. The end knowledge? Well, it's actually illegal to be compensated for carrying another couple's child in New York state (as well as in most states, though California is all about it and incredibly supportive of the surrogate community, both legally and financially). You never know unless you ask, I suppose.

New York, New York, it's a flat-bellied town...
